Jan Schneider of Germany's Fraunhofer-Institute, the largest organization for applied research in Europe, demonstrates their latest software to reconstruct Stasi-files in Berlin on Wednesday, May 9, 2007. The East German secret police, Stasi, had ripped around 45 million pages to shreds resulting in 600 million shreds in 16,250 sacks in the autumn 1989. The German government has now financed a two-year pilot project to reconstruct 400 sacks of damaged Stasi files.
